The New Practice

Member Profile

TNP is a new cooperative in Vancouver offering workshops for young people. We are run democratically, coming to decisions through a consensus-based model. We have a focus on sustainable social and environmental practices, and are committed to using methodology that is inclusive and respectful. Our workshops are diverse, but in particular we focus on leadership, communication, self-awareness, inclusion, co-operation, and co-operative education.

We are young people with backgrounds in youth leadership.  The eldest member of the co-op is twenty-four and the youngest twenty.  We believe strongly in peer education and that the most powerful messages to youth come from youth. We know first-hand that youth can do incredible things.  Our belief is that it doesn't hurt to have a few tools in your back pocket.

We are in the tool business.

Workshops

TNP provides workshops on a number of different topics, these include: co-operative education, leadership, self-awareness, communication, meeting skills, team-building, inclusion and more.  We have worked with both school-aged groups and adults, but offer workshops mostly to 13-18 year olds.

Included in our package are a number of workshop write-ups to give you an idea of the type of work we do.  By no means are all of our materials documented here; these are only meant to be examples.  Our workshops are planned in consultation with the groups we work with, and our material is relevant and innovative as it tries to meet the unique needs of a particular group.

Typically we work with groups of people as small as four participants to groups as large as eighty.  We plan workshops that are as short as one hour and as long as a few days. Our activities are diverse in their appeal to different learning styles and types of intelligence. We also have partial sponsorship available for our workshops on an as-need basis.
