Project Manager – Co-operative Internship Program

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Project Manager is responsible for managing, recruiting, monitoring and evaluating a province wide co-operative internship program. Also responsible for co-ordinating all administrative procedures including finance and budget management.

Project Manager hours associated to the project is 21 hours/week x 27 weeks @ $25 per hour with benefits.

RESPONSIBLE TO: Executive Director

START DATE: September 7th, 2010

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS:

Program Management and Budgeting:

1. Responsible for overall management, in conjunction with Service Canada Program Officer, (planning, administering, and monitoring) of budget for Co-operative Internship Program.

2. In conjunction with Youth Director, creates a two-day orientation session for interns                                      and host organizations concentrating on knowledge of the co-operative sector and job skills training.

3. Designs and implements program evaluations.

4. Works with intern and host to ensure meaningful involvement of youth at all levels of

program.

5. Prepares and submits progress and other reports as required to Service Canada, BCCA

board and BCCA members.

 

Financial Systems and Accounting:

1. In conjunction with Youth Director, ensures that the financial administration and bookkeeping of                     the program is in order.

2. Maintains an awareness of cash flow and budget situation as it relates to weekly operations.

 

Personnel Management

1. In conjunction with Youth Director monitors and evaluates youth interns and hosts throughout and upon completion of internship experience.

2. Visits each intern and host organization at least once to evaluate job placements and job     skill development.

3. Acts as a mediator between hosts and interns in case of difficulty in job placements.

 

Promotion and Communications

1. Develops and maintains promotional materials on the co-operative internship program (e.g. Web Site, brochures, etc.).

2. In conjunction with Youth Director promotes program to members of BCCA and other co-operatives and credit unions in the province.

3. Contributes update on program to BCCA newsletter.

 

Administration

1. Provides administrative support, including word processing, filing, facsimile and photocopying services.

2. Provides administrative and financial support for co-operative internship program.

3. Prepares and submits progress and other reports to BCCA and Service Canada as required.

 

Qualifications

1. Post-secondary education with 3 years minimum experience, or 5 years related work experience in youth         leadership and youth program development.

2. Experience in project design, development, implementation and evaluation.

3. Strong oral and written communication skills.

4. Previous involvement in Co-op Youth programs or similar experience.

5. Strong administrative and organizational skills.

6. Supervisory and leadership skills.

7. A sound knowledge of, and experience in the co-op sector.

8. Ability to work effectively and co-operatively as part of a team.

9. Effective interpersonal and public relations skills. 

10. Strong problem solving and conflict management skills.

11. Experience in funding proposals and management.

12. Demonstrated facilitation skills, especially in the areas of job skills training.

13. Basic computer proficiency, specifically Apple systems and Microsoft office.

14. Ability to build partnerships in the development and promotion of co-operative internship

        program.
