Cedar Opportunities Co-operative

Description: The co-operative's mandate is to provide employment for persons with
disabilities at a local café. The goals of the project are to strengthen the mission and role
of members of the board of directors, develop a business plan, and set out fundraising
policies and procedures. In addition, the organization would like to develop a training
manual for members with disabilities.
Kinnikinnik Developments. Inc. (GGroup)
Location: Kelowna, British Columbia
Funding: $30,000
Description: This project aims to create a co-operative in the rapidly expanding field of
technological innovation. Small and medium enterprises in this field are facing high costs
to acquire the technological infrastructure necessary for start-up. The co-operative will
serve as a hub for sharing infrastructure and other resources necessary for setting up a
business.
Kettle Valley Food Co-op
Location: Grand Forks, British Columbia
Funding: $17,700
Description: The goal of this project is to study the feasibility of setting up a co-operative
of agricultural producers whose product would target niche markets. The co-operative
hopes that this initiative will benefit producers, owners and members by allowing them to
share among themselves a larger portion of the production value paid by the consumer.
Haida Gwaii Local Foods Processing Co-operative
Location: Charlotte, British Columbia
Funding: $15,000
Description: Founded in 2005, this co-operative specializes in harvesting and processing
wild mushrooms (mainly Chanterelle and Boleta). The co-operative's goal is to create
local jobs by processing wild foods cultivated locally.
Harrop-Procter Community Co-operative
Location: Nelson, British Columbia
Funding: $33,600
Description: This co-operative practices ecosystem-based forestry by increasing the
value of the wood products that come from the community forest. It involves community
members in managing the community forest so as to limit the impact of logging on their
quality of life while developing job-creating economic activities.
Neighbours Food Co-operative (NOWBC Co-op)
Location: Vancouver, British Columbia
Funding: $15,000
Description: This co-operative, which manages an online farmers' market that sells
organic products, hopes to increase its number of producers and diversify its array of
services by adding environmentally friendly household products. Joint efforts will also be
made to increase the number of families that benefit from its distribution service.
Cowichan Bio-Diesel Co-op
Location: Duncan, British Columbia
Funding: $40,000
Description: This co-operative, which is responsible for distributing biodiesel made from
cooking oil collected from restaurants, hopes to develop a market for biodiesel
production by-products as agricultural fertilizer. The co-operative would also like to study the feasibility of setting up a rewards system for carbon credits generated by biodiesel production.
Keating Community Farm Co-operative
Location: Victoria, British Columbia
Funding: $15,000
Description: This co-operative was founded to manage the use of agricultural fees from
a 27-acre site that it rents out in plots to small farmers who are members in order to
produce organic produce. The goal of this project is to establish systems for planning,
decision making, and operations that are clear, innovative, pragmatic and conducive to
an open and interactive management style.
Greenheart Herbal Society
Location: Creston, British Columbia
Funding: $21,775
Description: The goal of this project is to conduct a feasibility study and market study to
create a medicinal and culinary herbs co-operative in the Creston Valley region. The
co-operative created following the completion of this project will contribute to the
development of organic fine herb production for culinary and medicinal uses. It will bring
together farmers and help them to sell their production.
